Hey folks. Welcome to another video. My name is Jeremy, The Wayward Traveler. If this is your first time here and you would like to learn more about outdoor adventure and awesome gear then start right now with this post.
As you know, I’ve been backpacking since I was 13 years old and I camped regularly with my family before that. I’ve always wanted to winter camp but whenever the opportunities presented themselves, I always found an excuse not to do it. Well as you know, that all changed in the last video about winter sleep systems.
A reminder on my experimental sleep system:
Sierra Designs Omega CD Tent
Thermarest Ridgerest sleeping pad on the bottom
Expedition Equipment SynMat Ultralight 7 sleeping pad on top
Marmot Helium 850 sleeping bag inside an Equinox bivy sack
In addition to this gear, I also planned on wearing:
a light-weight Smartwool bottom
a light-weight Smartwool top
a mid-weight three-quarter zip
a fleece buff
At about 2am, I changed up my experiment a little bit due to some cold spots in my air mattress. I put the air mattress on the bottom and switched the Thermarest on top of the SynMat to see if that solves some of the cold spot issues. I also decided to ditch the bivy. I got some condensation build up - which is pretty normal - on the sleeping bag itself.
